The DTM name draws inspiration from the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) racing series of the 1980s, an era that showcased legendary cars like the E30 M3. We take great care and precision when creating the master mold for our BMW body kits, including the popular BMW E30 body kit. This master mold serves as the template for all our production pieces. The process begins by ensuring the mold is free from any imperfections. Next, a gelcoat is applied, which not only determines the color finish of the part (typically grey) but also acts as a protective layer for the fiberglass. Once the gelcoat has cured, we begin laying fiberglass and resin into the mold, essential for crafting high-quality DTM parts, including the BMW E30 E36 E46 E92 G82 G80 body kit widebody models.
Our trained technicians use a hand lay-up technique, resulting in DTMFiberWerkz body kits that are thicker and more durable than lower-quality overseas alternatives, yet still lightweight. This superior quality is made possible by the special flex resin we use. After the fiberglass lay-up is complete, the mold with the piece inside is placed in a temperature-controlled environment to allow the resin to cure.
Once fully cured, the piece is carefully removed from the mold and trimmed. As seen in the images below, the part will have excess fiberglass along the edges. This is because the fiberglass must be laid over the edge of the mold to ensure full coverage. The final step is carefully sanding the edges of the piece.
Please note that our finished products, including those from DTMFiberWerkz, are not ready for paint. All items are raw fiberglass parts that need to be smoothed, fitted, and painted by a professional body shop before installation.
